Professional Development Workshops

These 7.5-hour workshops address science content as well as teaching methodology in an interactive and engaging way. You’ll leave this workshop with standards-based activity ideas to use in the classroom and on a Zoo fieldtrip as well as a deeper understanding of the science content.

Desert Ecology Workshop
This workshop focuses on the Phoenix Zoo’s Arizona Trail and addresses science content as well as teaching methodology. Topics addressed include comparative adaptations, habitats, animal and plant interactions, coexistence, ecological niches, and human impact.

Fee: $30 per person. This includes a boxed lunch.

Zoology 101
This workshop provides an overview of animal taxonomy with an emphasis on biological diversity. We will also explore human impact on diversity. Participants will also be able to explore activity ideas for teaching these concepts to students in the context of the Zoo or in the classroom. Recommended for grades 3 and up.
