Guided Tours
A Zoo docent will take your students on a 45-minute
interactive hike through part of the park. Through quick
games, stories, and questioning, your students will not only
be introduced to standards concepts but they will gain an
understanding of how to observe and appreciate the animals
at the Zoo. Tours are adapted for each grade level and based
on Arizona State Academic Standards.
Fee: $25 per group in addition to admission
Duration: 45 minutes
Availability: Monday – Friday; 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Group Size: Maximum of 35 students per group.
Schedule additional tours for larger groups.

Theme Descriptions
Animal Classification (recommended for grades K-2)
During this guided tour, a Zoo docent will guide your
students through a section of our Arizona Trail where they
will explore the characteristics that are used to divide
animals into categories. In addition to the exhibit animals,
docents will also use hands-on props. This tour also helps
students learn to explore their surroundings with multiple
senses and guides the students to actively view the animals
on exhibit.
Animal Classification Tour Academic
Standards
Exploring Arizona (recommended for grades 1 – 8)
Students will explore several Arizona habitats on the Zoo’s
Arizona Trail by comparing and contrasting the habitats and
the animals that live in them. A Zoo docent will guide
discussions covering how various Arizona animals have
adapted to their habitats and the role that each animal
plays in its environment. Along the way, students will
discover and investigate signs left behind by the wildlife
of Arizona.
Exploring Arizona Tour Academic
Standards
Exploring the Rainforest (recommended for grades 1 – 8)
Seeing the rainforest from multiple perspectives is the
focus of this tour. Students will take on the role of an
animal or person as they are guided through part of our
Tropics Trail and the Forest of Uco. A Zoo docent will guide
discussion covering how various Rainforest animals have
adapted to their habitats and the role that each plays in
its environment. Along the way students will collect
information to determine how the rainforest is important to
various stakeholders and investigate several scientific
tools used to study the rainforest.
