Special Needs Program

The Phoenix Zoo has a special program designed specifically for students with special needs. The program is conducted by volunteers who are trained to teach students with a sensory-motor approach. Our Special Needs program is designed for children and adults who are mentally, emotionally or physically challenged, or who have a learning or speech disability.

Fee: Free with general admission.
Availability: Mondays only; October – April; 9:45am or 10:45am
Group Size: Maximum of 15 students per class. Minimum of 5 students.
Reservations: At least two weeks notice needed. Subject to availability. Download Special Needs Reservation Form
Themes: Animal Families (K-2 or equivalent), Desert Animals (3rd and up or equivalent)

Theme Descriptions:
Animal Families is written for preschool and elementary children, or lower function students. This should be the first program attended.

Desert Animals is written for Jr. High and High School students, or higher functioning students. Desert Animals is also recommended for 4th, 5th, and 6th grades if they have already attended Animal Families. The program can also be adapted for younger children in some cases.
