Special Event
Year of the Frog Leap Day Celebration/Amazing Amphibian Exhibit Opening Celebration

The Phoenix Zoo will be celebrating Year of the Frog and kicking-off our brand new exhibit, "Amazing Amphibians", with a Leap Day Weekend Celebration! We'll be celebrating all things amphibian.
Activities will be hosted from
10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Frog hop races - the kids jump like frogs and race one another. Have small markers along the route of how far some actual amphibians are able to jump.
Frog Hop Dance/Population Biology Study – Children are leopard frogs and hop and dance to music between ponds…when music stops have to have feet in pond. Can add or remove ponds to represent droughts…add in bullfrog at end to represent invasive species
Meet the Keeper moments – 11:30, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.
Feed the frog Toss – a carnival type of game where kids toss a beanbag bug into the mouth of a choroplast frog
Sticky Frog tongues – kids use sticky hands to fling onto a table filled with laminated frog foods as well as some hazards to avoid (crayfish, bullfrogs, motor oil containers)
Frog vs Toad tic tac toe – large scale tic tac toe board where kids select frogs or toads to use as their game pieces.
Frog Hopscotch – kids are frogs hopping their way across the hopscotch board filled with good things (fresh water, food) and bad things (chytrid fungus, bullfrog, crayfish)
Frog Height Chart – how do kids measure up against the size of some amphibians
Be a Field Researcher – kids pick an Arizonan amphibian and then use a simple dichotomous key to figure out what their amphibian is
