Prairie Dog Day

Prairie Dog Day
Come and celebrate Groundhog Day at the Phoenix Zoo as we celebrate Prairie Dog Day this Saturday, February 2nd! Even though the Phoenix Zoo doesn't have any groundhogs, we are still celebrating the momentous season experience with their distant "cousins" the Prairie Dogs.
We will highlight the prairie ecosystem, highlight our involvement with black-footed ferrets (the predators of prairie dogs) and at 10 a.m. we will see if the prairie dogs see their shadows!
Activities will include:
• Come find out if the Prairie Dogs see their shadows that day.
• Learn about the relationship between prairie dogs and black-footed ferrets.
• Discover what the Phoenix Zoo is doing to help save black-footed ferrets, an endangered species.
• Make a black-footed ferret mask to take home.
• Keeper feedings of prairie dogs at 10 at the exhibit.
• Meet a prairie dog and other prairie animals up close in Desert Grove at 12:30 (weather permitting).
• See a black-footed ferret during a special presentation at the Arthur L. and Elaine v. Johnson Conservation Center in a special presentation at 1:30.
• Special event partners that will be on-site with additional educational information:
o AZ Game and Fish and the black-footed ferret re-introduction.
o Sierra Club.
Join the Zoo this weekend to celebrate an American tradition and see if Arizona will spring forward or have six more weeks of winter!
Times and availability may be subject to change.
