PLANNING FOR ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY AND HEALTHY HABITAT

PLANNING FOR ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY AND HEALTHY HABITAT
FOR WILDLIFE NOW AND FOR OUR FUTURE

We all know Arizona is growing. It is also getting hotter and drier. More of us are interacting with habitat where plants and animals live. As a public lands state, many places in Arizona are managed for all of us by federal, state and tribal governments. Many of those agencies are currently involved in planning efforts, which they hope will help them to reasonably accommodate appropriate public uses, while also conserving the healthy of the ecologies so they can exist in a healthy condition well into the future.

Today the Bureau of Land Management, the National Forest Service and the Arizona Game and Fish Department are engaged in planning that will affect millions of acres of land in our state. Game and Fish has a responsibility to steward our state's wildlife, while the Bureau of Land Management and the Forest Service care for the habitat that acts as home to that wildlife. They must work closely together.

Please visit these agency websites:

www.az.blm.gov (Arizona Bureau of Land Management)
www.fs.fed.us (U.S. Forest Service)
www.fws.gov (U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service)
www.gf.state.az.us (Arizona Game & Fish Department)

Please become familiar with these agencies and what they are doing. They are public agencies and want and need to respond in ways that reflect a public perspective and care for our resources in ways that perpetuate their value. The Arizona Zoological Society/Phoenix Zoo works with all agencies to encourage stewarding nature in ways that contribute to a healthy future for plants, animals and our children through the conservation of air, water, soils and habitat. We encourage sustainable interaction with nature in order to ensure a healthy environment in perpetuity.

Please join us in caring for our state and its lands and life. We hope to be a credible resource where you and those you care for can learn more about how to live well with respect for all aspects of nature.

Jeff Williamson, President
