PHOENIX ZOO WELCOMES NEW BOARD MEMBERS

The Phoenix Zoo and Arizona Zoological Society (AZS) are proud to welcome a new board chairperson.  JoEllen Doornbos, long-time Phoenix Zoo volunteer and prominent community leader, will serve as the AZS Board Chairperson.  The AZS also elected the following members for three year terms on its board of directors:

  • Thomas P. Ambrose, SVP and Executive Director of Phoenix Suns Charities
  • Mary S. Alexander, General Counsel for DMB
  • Eric J. Crown, Co-CEO and Chairman of Insight Enterprises
  • Owen Doka, Council Member, Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation
  • Edward Z. Fox, SVP for Communications, Environment and Saftey at APS
  • Christopher J. Hogan, Vice President, Pharmacy Management, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Arizona
  • Derek J. Kerr, SVP and Chief Financial Officer, US Airways

The elections were made at the AZS's annual meeting which also distributed awards to those who have contributed to the Phoenix Zoo over the past year. The wards include the "Good Egg" award given to board members completing their term of service.  Good Egg awards were given to Dan Corrigan, Steve Johnson, Randi Knappenberger and John Maddox. 

"Good Partner" awards are presented to organizations or individuals who give back to the community and foster the growth of the Phoenix Zoo.  Good Partner awards were given to:

  • The Arthur L. "Bud" Johnson Foundation for its financial support of the construction of the Native and Endangered Species Conservation Center at the Phoenix Zoo.
  • The Sybil B. Harrington Trust for its continued financial support of Zoo projects including the Animal Hospital, Harmony Farm  and the Zoo's continued expansion and sanctuary efforts.
  • Dr. Dean Rice, local veterinarian and long-time Zoo volunteer.  His services include acting as the Chairperson of the Zoo's animal health committee and he served as acting director to the Zoo's animal hospital over the past year.

The Phoenix Zoo is private non profit organization and its mission is to inspire people to live in ways that promote the well-being of the natural world.
