MEDIA ALERT: CELEBRATE ELEPHANT APPRECIATION DAY

WHAT:      The Phoenix Zoo is home to three female Asian elephants; Sheena, Indu and Reba. Come celebrate Elephant Appreciation Day with us as we pamper, spoil and treat these lovely ladies to a day all about them!

                        Activities include:

The first 25 Phoenix Zoo members to report to the lower viewing area of the elephant exhibit will assist with hiding treats for the elephants inside their exhibit.

Watch through the side door of the elephant barn for a behind-the-scenes look at the keepers as they perform their daily tasks such as cleaning, feeding and caring for the elephants.  Create a special piñata designed to entertain and stimulate the elephants to open it up and eat the treat inside!

Creature Feature: Zoo staff will share interesting, personal and fun facts, tidbits and stories about our elephants. Guests can toss carrots into exhibit and watch the elephants devour them!

Phoenix Fire Department will give Reba a shower with their fire hose, her favorite part of the day!

Discover how the elephants will open up their piñatas to get to their tasty treats!

WHEN:        Wednesday, September 22, 2010 Activity times listed above.

WHERE:     Phoenix Zoo ( 455 N. Galvin Parkway, Phoenix, AZ 85008)
