Help the Tigers!
We are on our way to building a truly World Class Zoo for a World Class City. In November 2010, we celebrated the opening of Land of the Dragons, the new Komodo Dragon Experience which was fully funded by The Kemper & Ethel Marley Foundation. Having opened to rave reviews, we feel strongly that it is one of the top Komodo dragon exhibits in the country, exemplifying our intent to create a World Class Zoo.
In April of 2011 we were thrilled to debut our new orangutan exhibit, Orang-Hutan: “People of the Forest.” This new home for our family of Bornean orangutans allows visitors to sit face-to-face with an orangutan as they view them close-up through floor-to-ceiling windows, watch orangutans climb on new climbing structures, ropes and sway poles and gives these remarkable creatures the ability to explore a naturalistic home with grass, bushes and trees, running water and more.
With the completion of Land of the Dragons and Orang-Hutan: “People of the Forest”, we are excited to embark on our next major exhibit, a Sumatran Tiger Experience and Exhibit. This $2 million project will help create a spectacular new experience for our guests. Zoo guests will wander down a tropical path to find views of this amazing tiger to the right and then the majesty of one of the world’s largest mammals, the Asian elephant, to their left. Up-close, intimate viewing is the key for both the tigers and elephants, providing a truly impressive perspective on two of the planet’s most impressive species.
The new state-of-the-art holding facilities will allow the Phoenix Zoo to care for several of these incredibly rare tigers, becoming a key participant in the international Species Survival Plan that monitors and manages the breeding of all endangered species in zoos worldwide. The Sumatran Tiger Experience will exemplify World Class for years to come.
This spectacular exhibit with multiple viewing opportunities, a wonderful new immersive experience featuring two important but very different mammals, participation in critical conservation program to literally and directly help preserve a critically endangered species…the Sumatran Tiger Experience will exemplify World Class for years to come. We have the dedication and commitment to make this happen. Now we need help from people like YOU to supply the funding and support. We understand that times are tough for many in our community, but it is during these difficult times that aggressive and ambitious actions can truly make a difference.
