Urgent Request--The Zoo Needs Your Help!
As a loyal supporter of the Zoo, we are asking for your help. Vital funding from the Phoenix Parks & Preserve Board agreement is needed to make urgent improvements on the Zoo’s basic infrastructure. These upgrades are also imperative in order to meet the membership requirements from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, which accredits the Phoenix Zoo.
Any new construction at the Zoo will be stalled until we can meeting the specifications of the city of Phoenix and find the funding to pay for it all. Specifically, the antiquated underground sewer and water facilities beneath the Zoo need upgrading.
The Phoenix Parks & Preserve Board is currently developing a priority list of projects to fund. Through input received from eight regional input meetings, the Board representatives are prioritizing a list of community-desired projects. The meetings started June 26 and are due to be completed on August 13, 2008.
We need your help for the Phoenix Zoo’s projects to be supported. You do not need to attend a meeting—you can help from your desktop!
The Zoo is not currently specifically identified as a project that the City plans to earmark for funding. To achieve a high vote total we urgently need you to voice your project choice on-line.
The process starts when you enter: www.phoenix.gov/parks on your internet browser.
1. Next, find the: City of Phoenix Parks & Recreation Development link and click it.
2. You’ll find: Park Development Projects link in the upper right corner.
3. Click on it and then choose: “Vote on your priority for future parks and preserve initiative projects.”
4. Your next task will require selecting a Park region on a map, and a list of vote choices will then be displayed.
5. Since the Phoenix Zoo is not generically listed, it is necessary to add: Phoenix Zoo Infrastructure in the box at the bottom of this list.
