  • 38 reused 55-gallon plastic barrels were painted by the students.
  • 46 teachers and 389 students participated in the project.
  • The participating schools were from 10 different cities and towns.

  • Each student and teacher participant was given a free pass for admission to the zoo on April 19th, Earth Day.
  • 4,013 votes were cast in the Favorite Barrel Voting Contest (Earth Day attendance was 6,211).
  • The winner of the Favorite Barrel Voting Contest was Marcos de Niza High School.
  • The winner of the Environmental Connections Essay Contest was Howard Gray Education Center (essay by Julie Felicetta).
  • The winner of the Staff Pick for Barrel that best fits the project theme was Mesquite High School Wildcat Ecology Club.
  • Graphics created 50 reusable lids for Favorite Barrel voting on Earth Day. The lids were constructed of reused Coroplast.
