Volunteer Position
Job Title: Petting Zoo Volunteer
Department: Experiences
Supervisor: Trail Experiences Coordinator
Supervises: None
Shift: One four hour shift per week for one year; 9am-1pm or 1pm-5pm
Petting Zoo Volunteers provide an important role at The Phoenix Zoo. We are looking for energetic and personable individuals with strong communications skills that are eager to share their knowledge and passion of the natural world.
Petting Zoo Volunteers are stationed in the Red Barn in the Children's' Zoo. Volunteers interact with visitors by answering questions and maintaining a safe exhibit for both the animals and the visitors.
1. Interact with visitors using age-appropriate conversation.
2. Enhance visitors' experience through educational interpretation.
3. Communicate the Zoo's messaging to visitors
4. Assist with crowd control and flow through the exhibit.
5. Monitor the public's interaction with exhibit animals to help maintain the safety of both visitors and animals.

Training Requirements:
1. Attend Volunteer Orientation (2nd Tuesday or Saturday each month)
2. On the job training will be provided.
Qualifications:
1. Provide excellent customer service.
2. Communicate with all age levels
3. Commit to one 4 hour shift per week for one year.
4. Stand for 4 hours in extreme temperatures.
5. Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
6. Must be at least 18 years of age.
7. Exhibit a willingness to learn and share information about science, nature, animals and conservation issues.
8. Provide proof of a negative TB test within the last year.
