Volunteer Position
Job Title: Trail Experiences Volunteer
Department: Experiences
Supervisor: Trail Experiences Coordinator
Supervises: none
Shift: One four hour shift per week for one year; 9am-1pm or 1pm-5pm
* Trail Hosts are volunteers that are assigned to a particular area of the Zoo. They interact with visitors, aiding them in locating hard to find animals and answering questions.
* Exhibit Volunteers are stationed in the Monkey Village and Wallaby Walk-About exhibits. Volunteers interact with visitors by answering questions, helping visitors find the animals and maintaining a safe exhibit for both the animals and the visitors.
* Trail Station Volunteers use interactive artifacts at cart stations, sometimes including a live animal, to educate visitors about our animals and conservation issues.
1. Interact with visitors using age-appropriate conversation.
2. Enhance visitors' experience through educational interpretation.
3. Communicate the Zoo's messaging to visitors
4. Attend training(s).
5. Assist with crowd control and flow through exhibits.
6. Monitor the public's interaction with exhibit animals to help maintain the safety of both visitors and animals.

2. Ability to communicate with all age levels
3. Ability to commit to one 4 hour shift per week for one year.
4. Ability to stand for 4 hours in extreme temperatures.
5. Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
6. Ability to attend training classes.
7. Must be at least 18 years of age.
8. Exhibit a willingness to learn and share information about science, nature, animals and conservation issues.
9. Monkey Village and Wallaby Walk-About Volunteers must test negative (-) on an annual skin tuberculosis test.
10. Must attend a Volunteer Orientation at earliest opportunity.
