New Nominees

Doreen Feldberg
After growing up in Rochester, N.Y. and receiving her BA in Sociology from Kent State University, Doreen moved to the Bay Area post-graduation. After spending time working in Silicon Valley for Avnet, Inc., a job transfer brought the family to Arizona in 1997. Another transfer took them to Singapore from 1999-2001. Since leaving the corporate world, Doreen has been actively volunteering in the Phoenix area with various community organizations. She served on the Chrysalis Domestic Violence Shelter Board, Anti-Defamation Board, various Scottsdale school boards (including as President), and spent 20 years with a faith-based non-profit board in multiple capacities, including as Board President. She’s currently serving on the Cortney’s Place Board as well as on the ASU Hillel Board. In her free time Doreen loves to spend her time with her family, husband Harley and adult kids Rachael and Aaron. Her passions include traveling, hiking and attending music and art events.
David Kohne
David Kohne is Managing Director of KPMG US in Tempe where he offers a multi-disciplinary perspective and innovative solutions to solve complex problems as the leader of KPMG’s Arizona/Colorado risk services practice. He assists clients in executing core internal audit (IA) and governance needs, improving risk management and advancing leading practice capabilities within the public company sector. His clients are from diverse industries, from consumer retail to mining. He also advises businesses regarding board governance, audit committee restructuring and business transformation and systems implementation. David was born in Wisconsin, grew up in Oregon, but has called Arizona home for 24 years. He is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors, Information Systems Audit and Control Association and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. He holds a B.S. in accounting from Arizona State University and a B.S. in computer information systems. David has current and previous board leadership experiences. He spent his entire childhood wanting to work with animals and work at a zoo, and he has hosted various business and community organizational meetings every year at Phoenix Zoo’s facilities.
Michael Tucker
Michael Tucker specializes in representing companies, creditors and parties of interest in restructuring and operational improvement situations, such as formal bankruptcy proceedings and out-of-court restructurings. With more than 30 years of experience, he has industry expertise in many areas including retail, manufacturing, distribution, healthcare, financial services, restaurant, real estate, gaming and transportation. He has provided services that include development and implementation of turnaround plans, development and review of business plans including strategic realignment of business units, identification and assistance with selling of business units, development and implementation of cash management programs, operational and financial reporting, debt restructuring and negotiations with parties in interest. He has been a management team member, a Chapter 11 trustee and a Plan Administrator. Michael has assisted businesses and law firms in dispute and litigation matters. These services have included consulting on economic damages and financial and forensic issues, antitrust, breach of contract and warranty, business interruption, dealer termination, fraud investigations, accountants’ malpractice, lender liability, lost profits and business valuations. Michael has been a Guardian level supporter of Phoenix Zoo for many years.

Returning Nominees

Michael Blaire
Before moving to Arizona, Michael founded and served as supervising pharmacist for three pharmacies in New York City. From 1993 to 1999, he managed several Walgreens pharmacy locations in the Phoenix area. In 2001, he moved on to co-found Diamondback Drugs, a veterinary compounding pharmacy that serves zoos, aquariums and veterinarians nationwide. He received the “Unleashed” Award from Power Paws in recognition of his contributions to advancing canine health. Diamondback Drugs was sold to Wedgewood Pharmacy in July 2018, where he now holds the position of VP Government and Regulatory Affairs. His extensive experience in health care and business led to a profound interest and involvement in politics. He is a founding member of the Arizona Chapter of the Republican Jewish Coalition and has served as a Precinct Committeeman and State Committeeman for Legislative District 23. In 2010, he ran for the Arizona State House of Representatives and received endorsements from the Arizona Chamber of Commerce, the National Federation of Independent Businesses, the Arizona Pharmacy Alliance and the Arizona Republic (Arizona’s leading newspaper). Though he did not win the election, he has remained active in Arizona and national politics. For over 20 years he has been an active advocate for the pharmacy profession, and for the right to compound.
Richard Burnham
Richard is a founding member of Gammage & Burnham. Since his admission to the Arizona Bar in 1976, he has developed extensive commercial litigation, administrative law and legislative practice which evolved to emphasize health care reimbursement matters. He and the firm’s other health care lawyers represent essentially every hospital facility within Arizona, as well as other types of medical providers. Richard has handled all manners of commercial litigation, including complex litigation against the State of Arizona arising out of the insolvencies of early Medicaid (AHCCCS) providers. He has handled over 40 reported appellate decisions with an overwhelmingly favorable win/loss record. He has litigated in a variety of courts including the United States Supreme Court, the United States Claims Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Arizona Supreme Court, the Arizona Court of Appeals, and the Arizona trial courts. Prior to founding Gammage & Burnham, Richard was a partner with Jennings, Strouss & Salmon. In 1983 he founded Gammage & Burnham with fellow partners Grady Gammage, Jr. and Mike King. The firm is now comprised of 43 attorneys. Richard served on the Board of the Arizona Zoological Society, the predecessor organization to the ACNC, from 1990 to 1999 and served as its president from 1993 to 1996.
JoEllen Doornbos
JoEllen began volunteering in the Zoo’s Education Department when it was managed by the Phoenix Zoo Auxiliary over 30 years ago. She guided school groups for several years, and in 1992 joined the Auxiliary and the Wildest Club in Town. In 1994 she added to her Auxiliary volunteer duties the coordination of ZooFari. As a member of both the Auxiliary and the WCIT she served on fundraising committees for events such as ZooSounds, ZooBrew, Wildest Ball in Town, the Great Adventure Hunt and Party Safari. She was asked to join the Board of Trustees in 1999 and fulfilled a 9-year term during which she was Chair of the Board from 2006-2008. She is now fulfilling her second 9-year term. She chaired ZooFari in 2001 and Rendez-Zoo in 2010 and 2016. JoEllen was on the first Capital Campaign Committee as well as the Pride Campaign and she and her husband, Phil, were instrumental in the building of the Philip and JoEllen Doornbos Volunteer and Administration Center and the Doornbos Discovery Amphitheater. Also, Phil and JoEllen received the prestigious Oryx Society Award twice for their support of the Zoo over many years. JoEllen’s husband Phil passed away in 2019.
Linda Hayes
Linda Hayes is a long-time Phoenix resident whose cherished childhood memory of visiting the Phoenix Zoo fueled her love of animals and passion for wildlife conservation. Today, she is Vice President-Communications at Freeport-McMoRan Inc. where she has worked for more than 30 years, including time with its predecessor company Phelps Dodge. While her role keeps her busy, it also offers many opportunities to travel to far-flung places, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, the highland jungles of Papua, Indonesia and the Atacama Desert of Chile. Trips to these places and others helped solidify her belief in the importance of wildlife conservation. As Vice President-Communications, Linda is responsible for corporate media relations, employee communications and public relations. During her career at Freeport-McMoRan, she worked in various roles of increasing responsibility, including several years in Human Resources. She leads the company’s annual charitable giving campaign and is involved in organizing company events. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business management from Arizona State University. Linda has one son and two grandchildren, ages 5 and 2. When not working, she spends time traveling, cooking and watching the wildlife around her house, including her favorites – a pair of owls who live in a nearby tree.
Jim Pratt
Jim Pratt is the General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of Salt River Project (SRP), Arizona’s largest community-based, not-for-profit utility. He leads the company’s more than 5,000 team members in fulfilling their mission to deliver affordable, reliable and sustainable water and power to over one million customers across central Arizona. Jim has worked in the utility industry for more than 39 years. He started at SRP in 1984 as an engineer and gained extensive experience in a variety of engineering and management positions relating to every aspect of the company’s business. In 2018, Jim was named Associate General Manager of Customer Operations & Chief Customer Executive. In that role he led SRP teams that are responsible for servicing SRP’s water and power customers, including Water Services, Customer Services & Strategy, Customer Programs and Distribution Grid Services. The SRP Board of Directors selected him to be the company’s General Manager and Chief Executive Officer on March 23, 2023. Jim serves on the board of the Association of Edison Illuminating Companies, is a board member of the Large Public Power Council and is an Executive Committee Vice Chair of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central and Northern Arizona. He has been a Phoenix Zoo member since 1984 and previously volunteered as a program docent.
