The Arizona Center for Nature Conservation/Phoenix Zoo (ACNC) is teaming up with artist Russ Ronat and his Project Holocene to raise awareness about our conservation efforts and inspire every guest to consider how they can help protect wildlife and wild places.
Project Holocene is an international art project that features endangered animal drawings and projected video by artist Russ Ronat. It is the goal of the project to bring attention to endangered species and play a part in inspiring the change that is needed to ensure conservation.
The Phoenix Zoo’s commitment to wildlife conservation is evident throughout the park, especially at the Arthur L. and Elaine V. Johnson Conservation Center. The Johnson Center is home to the Zoo’s native species conservation and recovery projects, as well as its field conservation research programs.
ACNC is dedicated to providing support for field conservation, working closely with state, federal, university and individual partners to benefit species of conservation concern in the wild, such as black-footed ferrets, Chiricahua leopard frogs, Mt. Graham red squirrels and more. We contribute to research on endangered and threatened species biology, we raise imperiled animals for release to boost wild populations and share stories about the importance of these efforts with our guests to encourage them to take actions that benefit wildlife and the habitats on which they depend. In addition to the work focused at the Johnson Center, we support field projects committed to conserving wildlife throughout the world, including Mexican gray wolf recovery, human/elephant conflict mitigation, orangutan habitat protection, numerous community-based conservation education programs and much more.
