Red River Hog Wellbeing Survey

Home Red River Hog Wellbeing Survey

Red River Hog Wellbeing

Do you see opportunities for the animals to care for their skin, like using a mud wallow or dust bathing?(Required)
Skin maintenance is important for red river hogs. Mud wallows and dust baths provide natural sunscreen, pest repellent and skin conditioning. It's also a great social bonding experience!
If you don't see a mud wallow or dust bath right now, check back on your next visit. Keepers freshen up these opportunities at various times of the day to keep things novel for the red river hogs.
Do you see opportunities for natural behavior such as foraging or resting safely and comfortably?(Required)
Keepers ensure that the red river hogs have many opportunities throughout the day to root and forage for food, as well as comfortable spots for resting.
Sometimes they can be hard to see, but look for things like feeder balls and hanging branches for foraging, and hay beds for resting comfortably.
Do the red river hogs look happy and healthy?(Required)
Keepers work hard to ensure that the hogs have optimal wellbeing, which means they have a healthy diet and many opportunities to express natural behaviors.
A healthy, happy red river hog can be seen engaging with elements of their environment, resting comfortably or even sleeping. When awake, they should appear bright and calm but alert.
Thank you for your input. Your comment will be collected to help the Phoenix Zoo continue providing the best care for the animals.
