Parasaurolophus is known for the prominent crest on its head, but the purpose of the crest is a mystery. Over six feet long on some individuals, it may have been used to amplify calls, regulate temperature or for display during courtship.
The crest may have changed with age, and it may have been more prominent in males. If, as many suspect, Parasaurolophus was a social species, the crest could have helped individuals identify each other.
