One of the most iconic dinosaurs of all, Stegosaurus is well-known for the distinctive plates on its back. Despite their rugged appearance, the plates were more likely used for attracting mates and controlling body temperature than for combat.
When it came time to fight, Stegosaurus would swing its spiked tail back and forth with great force. Puncture holes the size and shape of a Stegosaurus spike have been found in multiple Allosaurus fossils.
