What is zoo quarantine?
Quarantine is a designated period of time when an animal at the Zoo lives in a separate space. This practice is just one more tool to keep animals safe and healthy.

WHY DO ANIMALS UNDERGO QUARANTINE?
TRANSITION SUPPORT
To help the animal adjust to its new home and surroundings, or to help them get ready to leave for a new home.
HEALTH ASSESMENTS
Allows veterinarians to provide medical assessments to ensure the animal is healthy and free of disease.
RELATIONSHIP BUILDING
Allows keepers to build a relationship with new animals while learning to meet their nutritional, training and behavioral needs.
COLLECTION MANAGEMENT OR PLANNING
To accommodate breeding recommendations requiring short-term holding.
SAFETY MEASURES
To protect the wellbeing of animals at the Zoo by preventing the introduction of contagious diseases.
